Winter weather advisories are in effect for parts of the Nebraska Panhandle tonight into Thursday. Forecasters call for 3 to 6 inches of snow in Box Butte and Morrill counties, gusty winds and slick travel for the morning commute.

UNK faculty members honored for excellence in teaching, service and scholarship 

Three University of Nebraska at Kearney faculty members were recognized Friday for excellence in teaching, service and scholarship and research. Michelle Beissel Heath, Julie Campbell and Janet Graham received the prestigious Pratt-Heins Faculty Awards during the annual Faculty/Staff Convocation on campus. Each honoree received a plaque and $2,000. 

Community volleyball season starts August 27

More than 50 third- through sixth-grade girls are preparing for the start of the Cheyenne County Community Center's youth volleyball season following a two-day skills camp led by the Sidney High School volleyball program. Youth league practices begin Monday, Aug. 24, with matches starting Thursday, Aug. 27.
